This database compiles detailed information on mitigation measures from major anthropogenic methane-emitting sectors—energy, waste, and agriculture—covering six key sub-sectors: coal mining and oil & gas (energy), landfills and wastewater management (waste), and rice cultivation and livestock (agriculture).

About the Database


The Global Methane Abatement Solutions Tracker (G-MAST) is a systematically developed, comprehensive resource that identifies and categorizes technologies and strategies for reducing methane emissions across major sectors. Complemented by expert input and machine-assisted data collection, it employs a rigorous, literature-based methodology that systematically tracks and extracts information from academic publications, policy documents, and industry reports to capture how each technology has evolved over time and been applied across different countries and contexts. Each entry in the database includes detailed information such as technology description, reduction efficiency, abatement cost, climate and geographic suitability, maturity level, and documented environmental and socioeconomic co-benefits, where available. G-MAST helps identify both areas of concentrated research and application, as well as gaps in the global methane mitigation landscape—providing policymakers, researchers, and the public with a clearer understanding of available solutions.
